Where the 3,205 verified concussion providers in our directory actually are — providers per million residents for every state, the largest access gaps, and how much telehealth closes them.
Key findings
- 3,205 concussion-focused providers and programs are listed across all 50 states and Washington, DC — 1,007 cities in total.
- Access is uneven: the best-served state has 17× more providers per million residents than the least-served (Alaska: 62.7 vs California: 3.7).
- The median state has 12.6 concussion providers per million residents (2020 Census populations).
- Listed providers cluster in 620 of the nation's 3,143 counties (20%) — in roughly four out of five US counties, there is no listed concussion provider at all.
- 13 states have fewer than 40 listed providers — in much of the country, the nearest concussion specialist is a significant drive away.
- 521 providers (16%) offer telehealth, which partially offsets geographic gaps for follow-up and symptom-management visits.

Methodology
Counts reflect the 3,205 listings in the Concussion Care Finder directory as of August 2026. County coverage counts the distinct counties named in listing records against the 3,143 US counties and county equivalents; a small number of listings without a county assignment are excluded, so coverage is a floor. Every listing is verified against the provider's own public website before inclusion and covers dedicated concussion programs, hospital and university clinics, sports medicine physicians, neurologists, neuropsychologists, and rehabilitation therapists with a stated concussion focus. Per-capita rates use 2020 Census resident population counts. Counts are a floor, not a census of all care: providers without a public concussion-focused web presence are not listed.
